Ah yes, Graduation! Your most awaited day of the year.
After 4 years of following the teachers around…
- impressing them
- kissing their asses
- doing things you normally would never do
and meeting people who eventually become your
- friends
- best friends
- enemies
- then friends again
- lovers
- ex-lovers
After years of delving into the different educational instruments available…
- expensive, bulky and HUGE books you would never open again…(which you never got halfway through anyway)
- related literature (or simply, the copy-and-paste method)
- INTERNET! Oh bless the guy who made the internet! (Truly makes lives easier)
After all the different emotions and reactions felt…
- joy of accomplishment
- stress from hard work
- stress from mediocre work and
- stress from NO-work
- hunger from studying
- hunger for HIS/HER attention
- peer pressure
- parental pressure
- social partying (awesome!)
- social drinking
- social embarrassing-Yourself moments
After all that, it finally ends. And Ambivalence is the thought that comes to your mind. Having to say goodbye to one chapter of your life is a mournful thought. Yet, knowing that a new door – full of possibilities is opening up, gets you all “jittery” inside. Now is the time You get to stand tall and proud and say to the World -
“Hello World! Here I am!”
So now, after all that, one question comes to mind…
What now?
I for one am currently in this predicament. As a fresh graduate… Yes, I’m a fresh graduate everyone! With a sweet novelty degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
In my case, being a Nursing graduate, what follows graduation would mean having to take – The Board Exam!
Yep! And this is composed of 2 and 1/2 months of grueling review classes and refresher courses to serve as a preparation for the 2 day Nurse Licensure Exam. (Others would study for 6-8 months before taking the exam. It all depends on you actually)
Having done that last July. 3-4 2010, this year – I am now simply waiting for the announcement of the Board passers. Until then, I will have to pray for fate to be on my side. (fingers crossed everyone!)
Other courses that require a Board Licensure Exam are
- Medicine
- Law
- Pharmacology
- Chemical Engineering and others…
So then what happens? What follows after that?
What then transpires is 1 month of down right partying. Beach trips here, Island hopping there. Becoming a traveler in and out of your own country becomes the instant thing.
Finally a time to de-stress and re-energize your mind and body. A time to unwind and rewind the soul.
And after that?
After that follows a long period of pure “bumming around”.
Now this is the part I am currently on ladies and gentlemen. And hey, I’m not complaining! Not even one bit!
Having gone through 4 years of fast pace competitive crap, I deserve a sloth-all to myself-hibernation-mode moment dont I? In fact, we all do, all graduates do! And this sloth-all to myself-hibernation-MODE encomprises…
- eating
- sleeping and
- shitting
Daily. A daily cycle!
These three human acts are the Basic Fundamental Needs of man – wouldn’t you agree?
We all need to eat
we all need to sleep
and what goes in must come out
right?
Its basically the only thing a baby does. And so, ergo, hibernation mode means – baby mode. Yep. And its goooood.!
What then follows this you ask?
Well, from stories handed down
- from generation to generation
- from blockbuster to blockbuster
- from ear to ear and
- from pen to paper…
what follows is the most dreaded yet needed word of all…
- EMPLOYMENT!
Oh dear Employment!
Eventually, there comes a time in every Young Adults Life -who is in hibernation-BABY mode… she/he will have to
- get out of the couch
- bathe
- get dressed
- look professional
- print a resume and finally
- step out the door and
- find a job!
Yes dear readers, you have to go there, eventually.
Your superiors by the way, who you had to respect, who had the power - they used to be “the-teachers”. Now? Its “the-bosses”. The transition is not easy. Not easy at all!
Yet, think of it this way – at least this time, in doing work you-HAVE-TO-DO (not necessarily LIKE-TO-DO), you get to earn HARD COLD CASH instead of Grades. Yes my dear readers, this becomes a privilege.
Adulthood really does have its perks. Independence at its best. This is now the time you get to see just how street-SMART you truly are.
So, in whatever STEP/Stage you are at the moment my dears, just know, we all eventually end up there. Might as well enjoy what you have NOW.
As for me, in the meantime, while I’m still waiting for the Board Results, and can’t really practice my profession at the moment because of the said reason, I guess I will continue wallowing in the JOYS of being in hibernation-BABY MODE! Hey, take your time right? I’ll get there eventually.
So how about you, How are YOU DOING? Think about it…

I second the motion!
We all get there eventually.
LOL. And i quote:
“three human acts
..we all need to eat
..we all need to sleep
..and what goes in must come out”
